Civilization Revolution Now Available for Free

Civilization is beyond a doubt one of the best video games of all time. With all the hype and hoopla surrounding Starcraft 2, it would be prudent to remind Blizzard fanboys that for all its bluster, the game itself is but mere shadow when compared to Sid Meier’s masterpiece. The only thing better than Civilization, is Civilization for free. Civilization Revolution is now available for free in the App Store. When first released, the game was priced at five dollars. Currently however, Civilization Revolution publisher 2K Games is offering the application free of charge. While the iPhone installment of the turn based strategy game is obviously no where near as in depth as the PC versions, it is still a must have for fans of the series and for those looking to get…

U.S. Backs RIM in Data Encryption Dispute

The United States is coming to the aid of Canadian mobile manufacturer Research In Motion, in its on going disputes with several governments over access to encrypted date that BlackBerry users send and receive. Government hotshot and general all around nuisance Hillary Clinton is championing RIM’s cause. “We are taking time to consult and analyze the full range of interests and issues at stake, because we know that there is a legitimate security concern, but there's also a legitimate right of free use and access," Clinton said. "So I think we will be pursuing both technical and expert discussions as we go." It should be noted that the governments that have demanded access to data being used by BlackBerry subscribers are all from countries where, riding…

Apple Hardware VP Axed

It looks like Steve Jobs has dropped a guillotine on the individual he believes is mostly responsible for the Antennagate scandal that has rocked Cupertino since the release of the iPhone 4. Apple’s VP of hardware Engineering, one Mark Papermaster, has ‘left’ the company. More likely that Papermaster was unceremoniously ushered into Jobs’ office, where the great Czar informed him that it would be in ‘his’ best interest to leave. A nice severance package was offered, fake smiles and uncomfortable handshakes followed and that is where the relationship ended. If there was any justice, it would be Jobs himself that would have made an exit. Antennagate was huge problem for Apple, but it became a nightmare when Jobs started defending the iPhone 4 reception problems by first…

O2 Customers Told to use Wi-Fi Instead of 3G

British carrier O2 has come under some fire after it recommended that its users connect to Wi-Fi instead of 3G when at home. The laughable and pathetic corporate policy is a result of terrible 3G network reception and speeds which have plagued the wireless provider throughout much of the UK, especially London. An O2 spokesperson said, ‘We're sending out the text message about Wi-Fi to selected customers who we think will value this kind of information. This activity is intended to help customers to get the most out of their handsets, and Wi-Fi is often faster.’ O2 has also discontinued its unlimited data plan as a result of its poor network performance. The mobile phone public has not accepted O2’s recommendation, with some customers placing it in the same category as…

Sony Ericsson Vivaz Coming to AT&T

Sony Ericsson is preparing to launch a new mobile device in the Untied States called the Vivaz. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz will be available via AT&T and is the second SE phone announced to be making its may to North America’s second largest carrier after the Xperia X10. The Vivaz comes with decent specks and the trademark high end camera that Sony Ericsson is known for. (They are known for that and not much else unfortunately.) In addition to the 8MP camera, the Vivaz comes with 8GB of internal memory, a somewhat slow 720 MHz CPU, 3.2 inch screen and flash capability. No price has yet to be announced, but one can only assume that AT&T will do so as the carrier starts to hype phones that will be available this coming winter. Sony Ericsson has been in serious financial…

Android Number One in the United States

Call it what you will, but it is getting harder and harder to dispute the fact that Android is now king of the Smartphone market in North America. Android powered phones outsold both RIM and iPhone devices, earning a staggering 33% of the total market share in the second quarter of this year. By contrast, BlackBerry devices totaled 28% of units sold and the iPhone came in third with 22%. The best selling Android devices were Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Hero and HTC Droid Eris. Going hand in hand with the Android in terms of success is HTC which is quickly becoming the most exciting and innovative Smartphone manufacturer on the planet. The iPhone is still the most popular phone as far as media hype is concerned and remains the strongest brand…

More WP7 Announcements from Microsoft

Here comes the Windows Phone 7. Microsoft has announced that their newest mobile operating system will be available in the UK in October and a month later in the United States. Microsoft has yet to announce which mobile devices will be powered by WP7, but has announced the manufacturers, which include Samsung and LG. Microsoft COO Kevin Turner brushed aside questions regarding market saturation and how his company planned on challenging more established competition like Apple and Google. 'This game is not over. There's 200 (million) smartphones right now being sold. When you think about what is going to happen in the next three to five years, there will be 400 to 450 million sold. More than double the number. The opportunity we have is to really make change,” said…

New Version of Facebook Available for Android

Facebook has announced a new update for its Android application. The new Facebook on Android will feature several changes that were made in order for users to spend more time enjoying the social platform and less time pressing, clicking and waiting. One example of a friendlier version of Facebook is that it is now easier to add new friends, as well as following links posted by others. Also, the much coveted Facebook events is now present for the first time on Android. Facebook will now offer a photo reel so users can quickly see all of the new images that have been uploaded by their friends. The only drawback to all of this is that people will be wasting even more of their lives on Facebook. I have to admit that I have been using the social service a little more than…
